I've been teaching English at Tokoha University in Shizuoka for the past seventeen years. I am interested in the history of the English language and in the origin of English words and expressions. In my presentation, there are a couple of slides where you might not have enough time to read through them during the presentation, So, I've also posted a video on YouTube (it's unlisted) and you can look through the slides again at your leisure. The link is https://youtu.be/2I8m59tCYZw I'll keep the video up until December 1. If you have any questions, you can also reach me at: firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks so much for coming!
It has been estimated that over three-fifths of modern English words have their roots in Greek, Latin, and the Romance languages. This workshop will introduce some practical activities for teachers to incorporate common English word roots into their discussion classes. It is hoped that these activities will help students remember more of the words they learn, see some of the patterns in the English lexicon, and give them practice speaking.
