Maria Matilde Olivero

María Matilde Olivero is a teacher educator and researcher at Universidad Nacional de Río Cuarto, Argentina. Her main research interests include teacher development and individual differences in second language teaching and learning, and peacebuilding approaches in language teacher education. Matilde obtained her PhD in Second Language Acquisition at the University of South Florida, U.S.A. For the past years, she has worked intensively to find ways to prepare language teachers to become peacebuilders. She has recently co-edited the book Peacebuilding in Language Education: Innovations in Theory and Practice (Multilingual Matters).

Rebecca Oxford and Matilde Olivero invite language educators to see themselves and their students as potential peacebuilders. The workshop involves short, dynamic activities that enhance language and peace competencies simultaneously. These activities are related to the Language of Peace Approach, positive psychology, social and emotional learning (SEL), and “21st Century Skills,” such as communication, collaboration, creativity, cultural understanding, critical thinking, and commitment. Participants receive a link to abundant materials, information, and contacts for possible collaboration.
