This is the annual meeting for JALT SIG and Chapter Publication Chairs. We will discuss issues related to publications and share ideas for producing, improving, and promoting publications. Other SIG and Chapter Officers or members of JALT publications are welcome to attend.
This event will showcase presentations which were originally intended for SIG events cancelled due to Typhoon Hagibis and the novel coronavirus. Imogen Custance and Clint Denison will discuss student-created, field-specific word lists. Louis Lafleur will discuss the indirect spaced repetition concept. Finally, Tomoko Ishii will discuss learners’ knowledge of parts of speech and the relationship to vocabulary knowledge. Presentations will be followed by the SIG's annual general meeting at 9PM.

This meeting introduces the development of a proposed JALT Listening SIG. The session will introduce the group members and outline the proposed aims, communication networks, quarterly newsletter, and three annual events. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and share your intent to participate once the motion for the JALT Listening SIG is officially submitted in February 2021.
The Educational Materials Exhibition (EME) information booth is open to help people navigate the EME and answer any questions. We hope you visit the EME and show our Associate Members your support because they help JALT produce many programs. Naomi, Miho, Katherine and Susan will be on hand to help you every night during the conference this week and all day Saturday and up to 2:00 on Sunday.
This is our annual business meeting for our SIG, the Mixed, Augmented, and Virtual Realities in Learning research group. We will hear our annual reports from our officers, summaries research and events for 2020, and preview upcoming MAVR presentations. This meeting is for representatives of the Pan-Asian Consortium (PAC) organizations: English Teachers’ Association of the Republic of China (ETA-ROC), Far Eastern English Language Teachers’ Association (FEELTA), Korea TESOL (KOTESOL), Philippine Association for Language Teaching (PALT), Thailand TESOL, and Japan Association for Language Teaching (JALT). PAC members will share ideas and seek ways to collaborate in order to improve language education in Asia.
Is this your first time attending the JALT International Conference? Or is it your first online event? Do you have questions about our conference? If so, please consider attending this orientation. The purpose is to give an overview of JALT2020 and provide tips for making the most of the conference. There will be opportunities to meet members of the conference team, ask questions, find out about the resources available at JALT2020, and connect with other first-timers.
This is the annual meeting for all chapter and SIG membership officers. The focus of the meeting will be to exchange ideas and information to help retain members and also increase membership in JALT. Administrative policies, procedures, and documents will be discussed as needed. All current and incoming membership officers are strongly encouraged to attend.
This is a meeting for everyone involved with publicity for a JALT chapter, SIG, publication, or conference. A survey will be sent around prior to the conference to gauge attendees’ interest in various topics. We will go over what resources are available for publicity officers on the JALT site, and we’ll take questions to try to trouble-shoot any difficulties you may be experiencing.
This special networking session is being hosted by the conference team to bring together people who are interested in forging new links with other educators and researchers. We would like to help our Japan-based and internationally-based attendees have an opportunity to connect and also want to provide opportunities for JALT2020 attendees to discuss future research projects. This is the annual meeting of JALT Chapter and SIG treasurers. All treasurers are encouraged to attend this online meeting. We will be covering issues related to the bookkeeping for Chapters and SIGs. A detailed agenda for the meeting will be sent to the treasurer’s mailing list shortly before the conference. Agenda: 1. Current financial status of JALT Chapters and SIGs; 2. Problems and issues with treasurer duties.
Meeting for JALT 2021 conference planning.
Join us for the Annual General Meeting of the Extensive Reading SIG. All SIG members and conference attendees interested in extensive reading are invited to attend. We will elect SIG officers for the coming year and discuss ideas for activities and direction of the SIG.
At JALT Executive Board Meetings (EBMs), Chapter, SIG, and National JALT officers present reports, discuss JALT business, and vote on motions that are brought before the assembly. During the year, these JALT officers attend two weekend EBMs. Although this EBM is scheduled to last for only one hour, important business will be discussed and conducted. All JALT members are warmly invited to attend the EBM and observe the management of JALT business in person.
This is the planning meeting of the PanSIG 2021 committee and all interested in participating in PanSIG 2021, planned for May 2021 being held in Mishima (Shizuoka) at Nihon University. All SIGs should have several representatives engaging in PanSIG taking part in reviewing submissions, conducting the conference and editing the conference proceedings. Please take part in this meeting to make PanSIG 2021 happen.
