This longitudinal study keeps track of five novice elementary school teachers who received a yearlong preservice EFL teacher preparation program and reveal how they try to “apply the teaching methods they were trained to use” (Farrell, 2012, p. 447) in their school contexts.

Kazuyoshi Sato teaches at Nagoya University of Foreign Studies. He is the director of the MA TESOL program. He holds an MA and a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Queensland, Australia. He has written several papers on communicative language teaching and teacher development based on qualitative methods to reveal teacher learning processes. His research interests include teacher development, second language acquisition, and curriculum development.
