I have a PhD from Macquarie University and, each year, I chair their research roundtable at JALT. This is a chance for Macquarie postgrads to gather and bounce ideas informally for their research projects. I'm director of partner negotiations for the SA programme in Kansai University's Faculty of Foreign Language Studies. This year, I'm honored that the SA-SIG invited me to join a forum with Professor Chen (international ambassador for the National University of Taipei). We will discuss intercultural negotiations with partner universities.
In this forum, the presenters will share their experience and answer questions regarding various issues that arise when negotiating overseas academic partnerships. Topics include: (a) first steps for establishing the partnership; (b) negotiating differing perspectives (including mediating between our host university and partner university); (c) maintaining the partnership (including overcoming problems); and (d) ending partnerships. Simon is the director of partner negotiations for his faculty and Peter is the international ambassador at National Taipei University.
This is for current research students to share their research as a “work-in-progress” with fellow participants and alumni. Participants can discuss their progress and problems, and receive constructive feedback and/or advice in an informal, relaxed setting. Please prepare a short summary for screen-sharing on Zoom. Macquarie students and alumni who would like to learn about what other students are researching or help with feedback are welcome to join.
