Open session: please log in Teachers Helping Teachers (THT) General Forum

This forum will bring together Teaching Helping Teachers (THT) THT members, country coordinators and interested parties. Invited speakers from some of the THT programs, such as Bangladesh and Kyrgyzstan, will talk about their experiences with THT and teaching during the pandemic. Due to COVID-19 most of the THT 2020 programs have been unable to go ahead. Participants will also discuss the role of THT in a COVID world. Presentations and discussion will be followed by the Annual General Meeting.

Michael Furmanovsky is a Professor of Cultural Studies at Ryukoku University. He teaches language, culture and movie-based history classes while also being active in the field of Japanese popular culture, presenting regularly at Japan Studies conferences. He has written and presented on a wide variety of practical areas including Reading Circles in Extensive Reading; using songs and commercials to teach culture and vocabulary and more. He is THT’s Co-Country Coordinator for Vietnam and has been active in volunteer teaching in Vietnam since 2007.
Patrick Dougherty

Prof. Patrick Dougherty, Ed.D., is Dean of Academic Affairs, Head of the English for Academic Purposes Program and Foreign Language Education, Director of the Active Learning and Assessment Center, and a Professor of International Liberal Arts at Akita International University, Akita, Japan. He holds a Master of Arts in History and a Master of Education from Northern Arizona University and a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics from the University of Southern Queensland. Additionally, he holds a Doctorate in Education in Educational Administration from Northern Arizona University. He has been an educator for over 30 years, with 14 of those years being at the junior high and high school levels and the rest being spent teaching and working in university undergraduate or graduate education.

Brent A. Jones has been teaching English as a second or foreign language for nearly 30 years, first in Hawaii, and then in Japan and other parts of Asia. He is the former Chairman of the Board of Directors at Marist Brothers International School, and is currently the Director of Language Programs at Konan University, Hirao School of Management. He has been the City Organizer for PechaKucha Night Nishinomiya since 2010. One of his many passions is making beer at home and sharing the fruits of his efforts with friends
